Why can’t I order a pedalboard?!?
Dudes and Lady dudes, Salvage is going to have to make a bold move for a time to make things work. As of right now we have been taking almost every order that comes in. We’ve been doing regular boards, HUGE boards, teeny boards and some weird custom stuff. It’s just 3 of us building as much as possible and honestly we can’t keep up. Builds have taken way longer than they should have, orders have been very late and we have let people down. Part of it is a learning curve for us and part of it is we simply can’t keep up. To make matters worse as we get behind on orders we also get behind on cash flow and it’s a stretch for all of us. It takes me about an hour per board to answer emails regarding custom orders, if we move 40 boards in a month that’s an entire work week not spent building. This simply can’t happen in this phase of business.
So here’s what’s going to happen. As of December 1st our custom orders will be closed. We will continue to finish out orders on the books and we’ll build stock boards for purchase. If you want to order a pedalboard you have a short window before the cut off. Custom orders won’t open up again until we can make things work in their simplest form. Hopefully soon we’ll be over the hump and have the means to hire someone to process orders, in the meantime we’re gonna put on our elf shoes and rock.
Let us know what you think in the comments, we would love to hear from you!
Stay Awesome.
Daniel
I understand how you guys cut the orders in december ’cause I believe that you guys want to maintain the quality of your pedalboards.
We truly do want to maintain the quality! Thanks for the support sir
props to you for doing this. it takes a shrewd businessman to constantly re-evaluate how they operate, and to make necessary changes. i’ve really enjoyed watching your business take off in the last 6 months or so, and love to see the quality and craftsmanship you put into every board you sell. you are artists!
Thank you for the kind words! We’re doing our best to keep it on track, everything to this point has been at breakneck speed!
You guys will figure it out! keep making glorious beautiful things with those hands.
Thanks for the kinds words Will! We shall do as you wish
Well good luck with your business. At least you can admit something is wrong before they cart you off in a rubber truck. You guys do great work and it shows, and your concern makes your quality shine as well. It’s not an end, but a new beginning.
I was feeling the rubber truck coming but mostly I just hated letting people down. We’re gonna get this thing figured out
Set up an options system for ordering. Check out VFE pedals custom pedal page for what I mean. You an probably cover 90% of the “custom” features that way, make one phone call or email to cover the rest of the important details and go from there. Saves everyone time including yourself. Most importantly, it will make you life easier.
Kris, you’re nailing it. We already have something similar on the website but I still get a LOT of emails about orders outside of these criteria. We’ll get this thing figured out.
Hang in there, guys! Keep doing the best you can and follow your dreams! I hope someday to get you to build me something!!
Randy, we shall follow our dreams with near reckless abandon! Thanks for the kinds words and we also hope to build you something awesome some day soon
I respect this decision and I hope everyone else does too. I know your number 1 goal is excellency (it shows in your product!) and that this is a tough decision for you to have to make. You have a problem that most these days wish they had…too much business! It’s because you make killer boards. Keep it up bro! You’ll make it through this.
Kenneth, it truly is a good problem to have! Thanks for the kind words man, means a lot
By putting on the brakes, you will keep your reputation for quality boards. Hire someone who can respond to the e-mails and also schedule shipping. I’ve been a fan for a long time and will continue to be one. Good luck to Salvage Custom.
Fano, we will hire someone as soon as we can! Right now we just need to re group a bit and streamline our core operations. I appreciate all your support and I appreciate you…
Daniel,
Excited you have so many folks interested in your work! You guys make the most beautiful boards I have ever seen. Find a wise old dude who has succeeded in small business and buy him a coffee, or better yet, a Scotch! Those sorts of guys are great at solving the best problems, like over demand. They also love to share their wisdom with the next generation. Who knows, you might even find an investor for the next leg of your business journey. Till then, buy yourself a beer worthy of your fine pedalboardery and craftsmanship- you deserve it sir!
Walker, thanks for the kind words man! Your advise does not fall on dead ears, in fact I have already been seeking advise. I had lunch with a certain Bob in San Diego (who happens to own a reputable guitar business) last Friday. That man has no end of good advise. I felt like he beat the crap out of me by the time we were done. It was fantastic
That’s a good problem to have! Congrats on the success of your business. I can wholeheartedly recommend EA Help as a means to help you develop some administrative assistance. I don’t work for them, I was researching them and a few other companies to help us with some similar issues.

Brandon, thanks for the kind words and advise! I’ll check out the link.
Hey guys, if you need help filling orders I’d jump on board and help out.

Great move. I think you’ll make a few people upset over this, but to further expand your business and keep a quality product and larger portion of your customer base happy… I think it’s a great move. Having the guts and foresight to make this move will help you move this whole thing forward in the future rather than dying at the point many companies do. Good on you and best wishes.
I feel even more fortunate to have a pre-name-tag canary wood board from you guys. Besides the awesome craftwork, the charm of Salvage is being able to talk directly with Daniel. Try not to lose that part. Also, it seems that the market is suggesting people would pay more for the custom boards. That could help with the cash flow. You wouldn’t be gouging, but rather getting paid for your true value. Keep the faith boys!
I love that you guys make bold moves as well as your great quality on boards, I hope to see more of your great boards. People will support you no matter what
I think this a bold, but very wise move. Many companies simply make excuses as to why they’re not making the cut, but you guys are straight up saying that its too much for right now, and you would like to slow things down for the moment in order to maintain high quality building, and the upmost customer satisfaction. Good luck to you guys!
You’ve had my order for a month or so now and, quite honestly, I’ve looked at it partially as an investment in one of the coolest products AND creative endeavors I’ve ever witnessed. I go to your facebook page daily to be entertained, educated and “invested” in this amazing venture. Do I want my Tweed Salvage Stomp Castle RIGHT NOW? Of course I do. Do I want to play up to the sonic level of Jeff BecK? Of course I do. Is the Beck thing ever gonna happen? Er…nope. Is the custom box gonna be under foot at some point in time? Yup. THAT’s good enough for me. Thank you so much for letting me in on the first baby steps of this amazing adventure.
I would let future customers that there could be a huge waiting list, but that is only because it takes all of your energy to pour your heart and souls into each board to insure the highest quality for each and every customer…
You guys are just friggin’ rad!! Although I haven’t had the cheddar to get one of your boards, yet, I’ve been following for a while and I will be getting one sometime early next year ….I hope!?!? So mad kudos to ya’ll, keep truckin’ & rock on fellas!!!!
Happy holidays & whutnot!!!!! ,\,,/
Hey.. Consider this bad news a compliment to your amazing craftsmanship! You guys are making some amazing boards, and are turning some serious heads.. I mean seriously, you guys just started this year and you’re designing boards for people like Gungor.. That’s an amazing accomplishment.. Clearly you’re doing something right..
Way to be a transparent businessman who is just as concerned about quality of the product, and customer satisfaction, as you are about taking in new orders. I will be praying for you and your endeavors as one of the newest and best pedal board builders in this great Country!

It takes guts to slow your roll when thing are booming. You guys are recognizing that you can only handle so much and something needs to change if you are going to position yourself to grow and meet demand. Kudos to you. Congrats for blowing up and being the only pedal board I and many others want to buy. I have a guitar being built right now, maybe by the time it’s done your custom show will be open for biz again. Cheers & Cheerios – Josh
You guys do some damn fine work. I have a small business of my own and understand how hard it is, especially the first year (I opened mine 13 days before the financial crash in ’08). It’s really awesome to see you guys have so much success already, even though you have to turn people away, it’s only because you are doing it right…you just have to figure out how to do it right & efficient without killing yourself. It’s a process. You guys will come out on the other side with flying colors. I was I had gotten around to placing in a custom order a couple months ago. Oh, well. I can wait. Who knows, maybe I’ll find something you guys have up for sale that fits what I need. I’ll just say that if you put up a zombie board (NOT FLAT) that’s fairly large, I’ll probably be all over it. *wink wink nudge nudge* Anyways, keep up the good, hard work. You guys ROCK! \m/ \m/
P.S. – MORE STATE OF THE AWESOME VIDEOS!!!!
TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE! These are by far the best looking and best crafted pedalbaords I have seen on the market to date. So excited for you guys and looking forward to getting one of my own! Keep us posted! My order is waiting on “go”. God Bless!
Self made is the way to be guys! You make beaurltiful gear and you’re passion for music and woodworking shows through it! If you need a helping hand building I’d be more than happy to lend a helping hand. Keep it up!
